The Re(al)cycle Bin is a speculative design created in response to the frustrating reality of Utah's ineffective recycling system. Large quantities of recyclables are redirected to landfills to be incinerated, making recycling a futile exercise that provides the illusion of being beneficial. The Re(al)cycle Bin suggests that users leave out the middleman and incinerate their recyclables right at home, forcing us to confront the reality of a broken system.
